Three setups that actually work

Time the search to your last weeks of leave
Start three to four weeks before you return, not the weekend before. You need time to interview, check two previous parents, run a trial while you are in the house, and then a few days where you leave for a few hours and come back. In Gurgaon, good infant nannies are often already in a job. The person who can join tomorrow with no questions is a higher risk than the person who can join in ten days and has names you can call.
The handover note
Leave a single page where anyone in the house can see it. The baby’s name and age. Feed amounts and foods they already eat. Sleep times. What to do if there is fever. Your paediatrician. The person allowed to enter the flat. Your office number and a second parent’s number. The driver’s number, if someone else does a school or clinic run later. This matters as much in a South Delhi house as in a Gurgaon tower, because the first week includes strangers: a plumber, a relative, a delivery at the gate.
Money and backup
Pay the salary you agreed, on the date you agreed. Hold back a promised amount “until we see how she is” and she will look for another house in Noida or Gurgaon immediately. Separately, keep a backup in mind: a grandparent, or a plan that includes a replacement nanny if this one leaves. Returning to work with only one option is what makes a resignation feel like an emergency.
